Bachelor studies in biotechnics

The Bachelor training in Biotechnics is unique in Wallonia-Brussels Federation and combines Life Sciences and Technologies.

Organised by Haute École en Hainaut and in partnership with Haute École provinciale de Hainaut - Condorcet for a joint degree, the training meets the current technological challenges and societal issues.

TRAINING COURSE

The two main axes of the training are:

  • Life Sciences enabling the acquisition of knowledge required for using new experimental techniques and technologies related to fields such as cell and molecular biology.
  • Technological and Applied Sciences aiming at:
    • acquiring the required knowledge bases for understanding scientific issues and developing a thoughtful approach;
    • developing computer applications and interfaces, comprehending how computer networks work;
    • understanding the basic notions of electronics and instrumentation.

From the second year of Bachelor, the student will be asked to choose one of the two following options:

- Bioelectronics and Instrumentation (30 credits) is intended to ensure the maintenance of high-tech equipments by analysing electronic components in devices designed for life sciences.

- Bioinformatics (30 credits) focuses on the computer processing of data that are massively produced by modern analysis techniques (DNA, proteins,...)

Professional integration activities are organised at the end of the academic career (work placement and thesis) and lead students to use all their acquired skills but also to become aware of cultural diversity, for instance, thanks to a work placement abroad.

Skills acquired throughout the academic career enable the student to quickly join a multidisciplinary team and work in fields such as pharmacy, food industry, environment, medicine, within hospitals' biotechnical services as well as in research centres and laboratories.
