Inclusion and diversity : profile of the AMO Student

Inclusion and diversity are key priorities of the Erasmus+ programme. They are understood as the programme’s capacity to promote diversity in all its forms — both by funding projects making inclusion central to their activities and by facilitating access to mobility for people with fewer opportunities ("AMO" students), meaning those who are most vulnerable, furthest from mobility, and most in need of support.
As part of their mobility, participants with fewer opportunities can benefit from specific mobility formats as well as dedicated financial support.
The AMO status includes the following participants:
- Students with a scholarship from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation
- Students with modest means
Students with modest means are students who are or depend on someone in a precarious situation, even though they cannot benefit from a scholarship (see the decision issued by the Government of the French Community of 25th May 2007, on https://www.gallilex.cfwb.be/document/pdf/31930_000.pdf).
Students with modest means since the year before or the year of the mobility are eligible. Please contact the social service of the institution to check or determine your status.
- Students with the following socio-economic criteria:
- Students receiving the social integration income
- Students with the "aidant proche" status (https://wallonie.aidants-proches.be/vos-questions/ or https://www.aidantsproches.brussels/soutien-aux-aidants/reconnaissance-legale)
- Status with an employment contract (except during holidays) and thus suffering from a loss of income during their mobility
- Students being single parents and going on mobility with their child who is not yet at school
- Young graduates who received a scholarship or had the modest means' status the year before their mobility
- Students with specific needs
People with specific needs are potential participants (student, young graduate, doctoral student carrying out a mobility for studies/placement, staff member) whose personal conditions at physical, mental or medical level(s) are such that their participation in the project or the mobility action would not be possible without an additional financial support. The institution determines, via medical certificates or a personal interview with the social service, if the student can be considered as a person with specific needs regarding this definition. If an additional support is deemed necessary, the institution can introduce a request to the AEF-Europe for an additional inclusion support.

- Doctoral students carrying out a mobility for studies/for traineeship
- Doctoral students on own funds whose mobility leads to a loss of income
- Doctoral students who are single parents and go on mobility with their child who is not yet at school
